MILL SPRING – Bertha Atkins Byers, 87, of Mill Spring went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning, January 27, 2020 at Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, Black Mountain, NC (Alzheimer Care).

 

A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Levi Atkins and widow of Harold Byers who passed away in 1995. Bertha, also known by many as Bert, loved her Lord most of all. She enjoyed working outside with her flowers, sewing, crocheting, crafts, and sharing them with others. She was a very Special lady that cared deeply for her family and it showed. She was a member of Coopers Gap Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve Byers who passed away in 2018; two brothers and one sister.

 

Surviving are two sons, Donnie Byers (Betty) of Forest City and Kevin Byers (Connie) of Snow Camp; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Byers of Mill Spring; two sisters, Lola “Bill” Taylor (Heyward) of Pineville and Polly Mecimore of Taylorsville; five grandchildren, Wayne Byers, Melissa Price, Chris Byers, Hannah Byers and Moryah Geib; four great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.

 

A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Coopers Gap Baptist Church with Reverend Donald Hollifield officiating.

 

The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the church.

 

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
