The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the Rowe Reception Hall located at 1795 John Smith Rd, Columbus NC.

John served as a Deacon at Bible Way Baptist Church; a church he built refusing payment in service to the Lord and the surrounding community. John was selfless and cared for all the those who crossed his path demonstrating his self-sacrificing love over and over. With adult biological children, John at age 51 and wife Hazel Hicks adopted, then 7-month-old Mindy (Veilleux), starting the process of raising a child all over again. John’s selflessness includes countless other self-sacrificing and loving acts of kindness. The absence he has left in the hearts of his family and friends can never be replaced; while the impact he had on those around him will never be forgotten.

John is survived by his wife Hazel Louise Ross Hicks; son Kenneth Hicks; daughters Debbie Hicks and Melinda ‘Mindy’ Hicks Simpson; bonus son Timothy Crouse, grandsons Juan (and wife Sarah) Hicks, Kolby Hicks, and Johnny Simpson; and granddaughters Aisha Hicks and Bridgette Hicks.
