George W. Sommer

Born in Ozone Park, N.Y., he was the son of the late George Coger and Carrie Groeshoel Sommer. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Sommer was a self-employed attorney in Stuart, Fla. Upon retirement he lived in Fernandina Beach, Fla., then Leesburg, Fla., and eventually settled in Tryon, N.C.

Surviving are two sons, George C. Sommer of Columbus and Timothy C. Sommer of Wyandotte, Mich. Two stepsons, Jay Lichty of Tryon and Guy Lichty of Asheboro, N.C. One brother, Gerald A. Sommer of Leesburg, Fla. Also surviving are four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamzen L. Sommer, and a son, Anthony W. Sommer.

A gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.
