Arthur L. Smith

Arthur Law Smith, 87, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, S.C.

Born in Tryon, N.C., he was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy Doubleday Smith and was first married to Marjorie Agate Smith who died in 1987. He was a veteran of WWII having served in Guam in the U.S. Navy. Raised in Washington, Ill., he later moved to Chicago and had a full career in advertising. In 1995, he returned to Tryon after his retirement. He was affiliated with the Episcopal Church in Chicago.

Surviving is his wife, Mary White Smith; one son, Andrew A. Smith (Nancy King); one sister, Betty Knopp of Columbus, N.C. Also surviving are one nephew and several nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, William Doubleday Smith in 1978.
