Mill Spring– Lloyd Rhymer, 84, of Mill Spring, NC died on Monday, March 13, 2023, in his home.

He was born on Half Circle B Ranch in Fletcher, NC, and was the son of the late Lloyd and Belle Stepp Rhymer. Leaving the majestic mountain of NC, Lloyd moved north to a big city just outside of Chicago, IL. Life was not easy for him there as he lost his father at a very early age. He made the most of it becoming a star quarterback and a golden gloves boxer. In 1955, at the age of 18, Lloyd felt compelled to serve his country. He enlisted in the Army where he also excelled.  He was accepted into Jump School where he became a Specialist in the 11th Airborne Division. He was stationed in Germany and Cambodia where he taught advanced tactical training.  Soon after he returned, he met the love of his life. It truly was “love at first sight”. After a short romance of only three months, he and Carolee were married and remained deeply in love for 63 years.
