Charlotte, NC—Katherine Steppe Hillman, 94, passed away from natural causes in Charlotte, NC on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
Katherine was born in Polk County, NC to the late James Clarence and Sarah Ruth Byers Steppe. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. Katherine lived a simple life, devoting herself to her family and her students. Over the years, she worked as a teacher in Jacksonville, FL, multiple schools in South Carolina, Sunny View Elementary in NC and multiple other schools in Charlotte, NC. She was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Reginald J. Hillman, and two brothers, Vernon Steppe and Howard Steppe.
Surviving is her son, John R. (Reggie) Hillman and his wife, Mary Kizer (Beth) Hillman of Fort Mill, SC; two grandsons, Madison Corey Hillman and his wife, Carrie Hillman and Reginald Corbin Hillman; two brothers, Ronald Steppe and John Steppe both of Mill Spring, NC; one sister, Margaret Davis of Charlotte, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Pineville United Methodist Church in Pineville, NC with Reverend Dr. John Boggs.
The family will receive friends at Pineville United Methodist Church following the service.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 in the Big Level Church Cemetery in Mill Spring, NC officiated by Reverend Dr. John Boggs and Reverend Dr. Ned Owens.
