Early-season softball is often accompanied by chilly conditions. On Tuesday, March 5, Landrum’s 11-2 win must have increased the chill factor for the visiting Chapman Panthers. 

 

The Cardinals’ new head coach, Sandy Price, noted that Michelle Suddeth’s lead-off home run, clearing the fence in left-center, helped inspire the Cardinal win. 

 

On the mound, Caitlin Cox went the distance for the win. Outside of a couple errors, Landrum’s fielders played sharply. Overall, the Cardinals hit well, and ran the bases alertly. 

 

 “I would say the timely hitting” was a key factor, Price noted. 

 

After an 8-1 loss to Blue Ridge on Monday, the Cards record is 1-1. Their hitting ability, running speed, aggressive fielding and an apparent winning attitude make the sky the limit.  

 

In the game against Chapman, Landrum held a 1-0 lead through in the visitors’ second. A wild pitch sent a runner home from third, tying the score at 1-1. Landrum picked up two runs in the home second, on a walk, a single, and two wild pitches. 

 

After holding the Panthers scoreless in the top of the third, Landrum held a 3-1 lead. 

 

Heading to the fifth inning, Landrum held a 6-1 lead, which the Cards padded to 10-1 on a double and a pair of triples. 

 

Landrum’s net game is Monday, March 11 at Chesnee. Opening pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
