Celia Gertrude Owensby Greene, 86, went home to her Lord and Savior after an extended illness on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at North Greenville Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, N.C., Celia was the third child of eleven children of the late Ealey Perry and Dessie Kansie Bailey Owensby, born on Sept. 29, 1929. She married her late husband, Ray Greene, in 1949. Ray preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sister: Colleen, Ray, Zane, Jay, Cleo Bradley, Lois Gilbert, Joe, Margie Greene and Perry R.B.

Celia is survived by a daughter, Kay Shepherd (Glenn) of Travelers Rest, S.C., and a son, Geno Greene (Gina) of Mill Spring, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a brother Wayne Owensby (Lou) of Mill Spring, N.C. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that she greatly loved.

Celia was a loving mother and grandmother. She was happiest when she was able to share time with her family. She could brighten everyone’s day with her smile.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a mother and homemaker. She was retired from the textile industry.

A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Todd Laughter. The family will receive friends following the service.
