The Rev. Mary G. Christina Condit, member of St. Marys Episcopal, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cristina was a chaplain at the Western Youth Institution for the past eight years. She formerly taught nutrition at Appalachian State University. While a member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Valle Crucis, she answered the call to the ministry. After seminary, she became rector at the Church of the Transfiguration, Saluda, for eight years, and then came to St. Stephens, Morganton. She was active in Hispanic ministry, prison outreach and a volunteer Spanish translator, and on the Committee to Dismantle Racism.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents, Peggy and Nelson, and leaves behind her caring older brother, Tom.

Services will be held at St. Marys Episcopal Church, Morganton on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 2 p.m., with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to: Burke Sunrise Inc. (Rotary Club), P.O. Box 2936, Morganton, N.C. 28680. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
