James William Bodie, Sr.

James William Bodie, Sr., 91, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at his home.

Born in Ridge Spring, S.C., he was the son of the late Lovic and Nettie Jones Bodie. Mr. Bodie was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Tryon, N.C. in 1965 and purchased the Western Auto in Tryon, N.C. and operated the store until 1990. Mr. Bodie was a past member of the American Legion, past president of the Tryon Lyons Club and a trustee for Woodman of the World. He was a member of Tryon First Baptist Church for 50 years.

Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Mildred Dorn Bodie; one son, James William Bodie, Jr. (Sandy) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Betty Jean Durham (Roger) of Tryon, N.C.; three grandchildren, Andrew Durham of Tryon, N.C., Andrea Lay (Justin) of Columbus, N.C. and Karen Hawkins (Dakota) of Raleigh, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Finley and Virginia.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. with Dr. Jeff Harris and Dr. Daryl E. Maxwell officiating.

Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C. with military rites by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Tryon First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 125 Pacolet Street, Tryon, NC 28782.

At other times, the family will be at the home.
