Spencer Weldon Reid, 87, of Saluda, N.C. passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stewart B. Reid, his parents, Claude and Ethel Hayes Reid, two brothers, Albert and Charles and two sisters, Patsy Case and Marsha Nell Reid.

He served in the US Army, and taught school at Polk, Buncombe and Transylvania Counties before retiring in 1982.

Spencer was the sole survivor of the Saluda Charter Members of the Saluda Lions Club, was of the Baptist Faith and faithfully attended Tryon Second Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Isabel Bradley Reid;  a son, Gary S. Reid and his wife Melanie of Saluda;  two brothers, Hilton H. Reid and Robert Lee Reid and his wife Dottie all of Brevard;  a sister, Georgia Ann Reid Fowler and her husband Adrian of Cashiers;  two grandchildren, Samantha Reid Richardson and her husband Matthew and their children, Devon and Jordan of Forest City and Dusty Webb of Arden and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 at the Tryon Second Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Jones and Rev. Lynn Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
