Ray Malone

Raymond Francis Malone, 80, of Tryon, N.C. passed away peacefully on July 22, 2014 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Staten Island, N.Y. he was the son of the late Harry and Frances S. Malone.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard where he served in the New York Harbor and on Lake Hopatcong in N.J. Ray was a retired employee of Bell Laboratories in Murry Hill, N.J. but most notably Malone Machine Shop that he ran from his home for close to 20 years. It was here that he excelled by designing, building and fixing anything and everything and where life long friendships were made. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Ray was a loving husband to Pat Malone for 45 years. Together they enjoyed training horses to drive, restoring carriages, sailing, motorcycle riding, camping, kayaking and being active in Tryon Little Theater.  He also played in Polk County Community Band.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Malone of Anderson, S.C., daughter, Katie Malone of Landrum, S.C. and one grandchild, Keene Ray Fraedrich, brothers Jimmy Malone and Charlie Malone both of N.J.
A special Liturgy of the Word will be held at 11 a.m. Monday July 28, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tryon, N.C.
