Fred Earl Foster, 80, of 89 Gettys Foster Lane, Columbus died Jan. 3, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Gettys and Louise Foster and loving husband to the late Dale Jackson Foster.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, with tours in Vietnam and Korea.  He was the Columbus Police Chief for several years and was a truck driver.  He was a member of Coopers Gap Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Earl Foster (Robin) and David “Pud” Foster (Tammy) both of Tryon; a daughter, Lori Brewer (David) of Rutherfordton, N.C.; granddaughters, Mandi Rickman Metcalf, Jessica Foster Clark (Jamison), Larah Foster Waters (Jonathan), Leah Foster, Jeri Ann Hudson and Linley Foster; great-grandchildren, Lathan and Payton Metcalf, Jerica, Jayvin and Jasper Clark and Ada Scott Waters. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jerica Foster.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Petty Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Coopers Gap Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Don Hollifield.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of David Foster, 88 Gettys Foster Ln., Tryon.
