On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the Polk County Wolverines played host to the Chase Trojans in an intense basketball matchup. JV played away on Tuesday, Dec. 7, so the varsity teams were the only teams on the court.

The girls game was very competitive for three quarters as the score went back and forth throughout. As the third quarter wound down Polk caught a break when the Chase coach was given a technical foul. Polk was able to build some momentum off both the foul and the play of #32 Jamie Hrobak. Hrobaks rebounding helped Polk keep pace with Chase as the third quarter ended with Polk being down 36-39.

However, as the fourth started things fell completely apart for the Lady Wolverines as Chase went on an 11-0 run. After this run Polk could not get anything going on either side of the court and the game finished with Chase winning 42-54.

The guys game was not nearly as close as the girls game. From the start, Chase showed its dominance, jumping out to an early 15-5 lead midway through the first quarter. The first quarter ended with Chase leading 26-9. Polk couldnt get their offense into a rhythm in the second quarter, which ended with the Wolverines trailing 21-44.

As the second half got under way Shawn Gary, #10, came out with intensity, and his smooth passing gave Polk fans something to cheer about. With Garys effort Polk made a run, but Chase was still ahead with the score 40-60 as the third ended.

Polk came alive in the fourth quarter as they cut the lead to 15, the smallest it had been all night. But it wasnt enough, and the game ended 61-77.
