Harmon Field will host the second annual Heritage Days March 25 through 28, Thursday through Sunday. Thursday and Friday (March 25 and 26), are designated as educational days and are open to all school-aged children.

Heritage Days will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday (March 27 and 28). The event is free to the public, unless otherwise indicated. More information can be found at www.harmonfield.com.

Last years event was so well received that more Civil War troops are begging to come and participate. This years battles and reenactments promise to bring even more fun to Harmon Field. There will also be a barn dance on Saturday night. There will be a small charge to the public who wish to dance no charge for spectators. You do not know how to dance? Not to worry! The callers teach people how to do the dances that were loved during the Civil War era. Come and enjoy a dance with family and friends.

The educational days will give teachers an opportunity to bring their students to Harmon Field for a learning experience. There is no charge for this event. There will be learning stations in crafts, history, and sports. Students will rotate by classroom or families (home schoolers) through one station in each category.

Each session will be 40 minutes in length, allowing ample time for demonstrators to explain their area and answer student questions. Prior registration is required to participate on the educational days, so contact event organizers as soon as possible in order to reserve your session.

Many activities will be taking place during the two days open to the public as well. As plans progress, they will be posted on the web site. Organizers are looking for crafters who would like to set up a booth on Saturday and Sunday. If possible, they would like you to be demonstrating your craft, and you are welcome to have your items for sale to the public. All crafts must reflect life in the 1800s. There is a 10 percent of sells fee for those wishing to reserve a booth space.

A Civil War Museum will be set up in the old Tryon Middle School building, now home to Harmon Field Outdoor Camps. Students are being encouraged to enter a display at the museum. Several classrooms have already registered to do a display it is not too late to get your students included in this project.

Harmon Field Outdoor Camp campers have already begun working on a large map of North Carolina, which will depict the Civil War sites in our state. Organizers are looking for people with Civil War era items that they would be willing to display over the weekend. Security measures will be in place throughout the weekend.

Harmon Field Museum will make its debut that weekend. If you have any Harmon Field memorabilia that you would like to display over the weekend or donate permanently to the museum, contact Lorna Dever.

Thermal Belt Rotary and Harmon Foundation are two of the sponsors who have already donated funds in order for Harmon Field to keep this event free to students and the general public. They are seeking more sponsors for this event in order to cover all costs.

Any proceeds above costs from Harmon Field Heritage Days go into scholarships for various programs run at Harmon Field throughout the year.
