The Hospice Home Store, a downtown Hendersonville thrift store operated by Four Seasons, announces the Show Me Series, beginning January 9.

The series consists of free instructional demonstrations to educate people on taking items found in thrift stores and turning them into something to wear, something for their home, or a gift.

Each demonstration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. for four Saturdays in January at the Hospice Home Store, 215 N. Main Street in downtown Hendersonville.

Each demonstrator will answer questions as they work so attendees can imitate the project at home. The public is invited to come to the store and learn a craft or skill to enjoy with friends. The classroom area in the store has chairs for those attending.

The first demonstration on January 9 will be Felting Made Easyand Made into Fun, provided by Hendersonville artisan Kate Stockman.

Felting is the matting of wool fibers caused by a combination of heat, moisture, and agitation which cause the scales of the fibers to open up and lock together. Felting compresses the fibers which causes shrinkage, creating a dense material. Stockman is a multi-media artist who owns The Cre8tive Flow.

The demonstration on Saturday, January 16, will spotlight Barnardsville resident Phil Atwood and his Fanciful Metal Birdhouses. Atwoods birdhouses are made from recycled metal objects that he collects from thrift stores and many other places.

The fourth Saturday in January, January 23, features Bob Edney. Edney can create a lamp out of just about anything. He finds various elements at thrift stores and flea markets and turns them into lamps. Edney will also cover how to re-wire an existing lamp or update the wiring in an old lamp.

The series will wrap up on January 30 with Mike Bradshaw and his demonstration called The basics of refinishing, restoring and repairing furniture. Bradshaw is an antique dealer and has a furniture refinishing business.
