Did you know that your Tryon History Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm?  If you have never seen our museum, the time is nigh!  Our mission is “To Tell Tryon’s Story” and we would love to tell it to our community and visitors.

 

We survived COVID somehow.  We closed in March 2020 and did not start to reopen until October 2020.  We are now seeing increases in the number of visitors and we are always excited to show them what we have.

 

You may have heard that the Museum now also serves as the official Tryon Visitor’s Center.  We work with The Town of Tryon and the Tryon Travel & Tourism Board to make the best use of all our resources.  The museum has volunteer docents to assist visitors.  The docents recently had a training session followed by a light lunch.  We appreciate each one of them.  There are even several men who act as docents!  If you are interested in serving, please call 828-440-1116.  We hope to extend open hours if we have more coverage.

 

In January, several new people joined the board.  Unfortunately, we lost two of our cherished board members last year, Alan Leonard and Mary Carruth.  We miss them and their many contributions to our programming and their enthusiasm.

 

In April the Museum Board held a day-long planning retreat, led by Wanda May.  They developed an Annual Work Plan and began to prioritize the projects they identified.

 

In June we were able to resume the highly successful presentation series, “Tales of Tryon”.

Our first presentation was by Mike McCue, noted local historian, with a presentation about Trains and the People They Brought to Tryon.  The overflow crowd at the Tryon Depot may cause us to offer this talk again.

 

Because of the Pandemic, the Museum was unable to hold its annual large fundraiser in 2020.  Fortunately, the board was very conservative with their funds and expenses were down because we were closed.  Thankfully, we are now able to resume fundraising with an exciting Golf Scramble Tournament set for September 17 at Cleghorn Resort Golf Club.  

 

Ladies and Gentlemen, gather your foursome and get a registration form from the Museum or download it from our website, www.tryonhistorymuseum.org.  You will have a fun day, lunch, great golf, and prizes and you will be supporting an important community asset. Come by soon and see our newest exhibit about the beautiful Tryon Country Club and golf course.

 

Of course, all local organizations benefit from community involvement and active support.  We are always looking for volunteers.  We need folks who can write, do general office projects, offer computer expertise and most importantly, to serve as ambassadors to Tryon.  If you would like to learn about these opportunities, please call the Museum or send email to info@tryonhistorymuseum.com
