The Unity in the Community Organization recently held its 3rd Annual Adult Prom, but for two Landrum residents, it was more than just a Prom. 

 

When Angela Barnette and Jamie Skipper, picked up the Tryon Daily Bulletin, and saw the Unity in the Community’s ad announcing the date Prom, they immediately knew this was an event that definitely would be attending. It was their chance to finally get it right. Ironically, Jamie and Angela had actually dated before. They were actually high school sweethearts, but unfortunately that relationship didn’t last too long. Angela had other plans for her life, that didn’t include Jamie. So they went their separate ways. 

 

According to the couple, years went by without any communication at all.  

 

As time passed, they both married other people, which ended up in divorce. Angela and Jamie sort of forgot about each other until one day their paths crossed at the dog park in Landrum. 

 

Since re-connecting, their relationship has grown. They now know, it was meant for them to be together. Without a doubt, the adult prom was perfect for Angela and Jamie. The Prom do-over, gave them an opportunity to do it right. No curfew, no lecture from the parent, no matching color or any other formalities that comes with typical High School Prom. 

 

When asked about their night at the Prom, they replied “It was great…the music, the food, everything was just great, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!” 

 

The event was funded by a generous grant from the Polk County Community Foundation’s Free Community Event Fund.
