The Tryon Depot Room is pleased to host a show of Gary Cooley paintings during the month of April. This artist moved to Hendersonville in 2011, and has been painting oil landscapes near and far ever since.  

 

The show features plein air work from the area, and from his travels, as well as portraits of local Tryon folks done from life at the Tryon Painters and Sculptors studio each Wednesday evening since 2015. 

 

The Depot Room is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and by appointment. There will be a reception on Friday, April 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in conjunction with Tryon’s Fourth Friday events. 

 

Gary grew up in rural southeastern Michigan, and is a graduate in illustration and painting at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Mi. After a long career in illustration, he and his wife Anne moved to Hendersonville, NC. He is now inspired by the beauty of the mountains, the incredible talent of the people here, and the changing seasons. 

 

Plein air painting has become one of his passions along with portraiture and studio painting. Working from life wherever possible is essential. Capturing the mood and the essence of a scene, or the inner spark of a person, or a chicken for that matter, is his goal. 

 

Gary is currently represented by the Gallery at Flat Rock in Flat Rock, NC and the Balsam Ridge Gallery in Waynesville, NC.
