St. Luke’s Rehab Center offers program on dry needling

Published 10:00 pm Wednesday, January 4, 2017

If you’re interested in an alternative treatment for muscular pain, the Rehab Center at St. Luke’s Hospital is offering a free health talk about dry needling.

Presented by Patricia Renshaw, DPT, dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin and with few side effects. Used in conjunction with other therapy modalities, dry needling involves the insertion of a thin filament needle to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues such as muscle “trigger points.”

Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based in Western neuroanatomy through scientific study of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. Dry needling is used to help alleviate acute/chronic injuries, headaches, back and neck pain, tendinopathy, muscle spasms, sciatica, hip/knee pain, and more.
