Pushing themselves for nearly 65 miles on a combination of paved, dirt, gravel, and fire roads, dozens of cyclocross racers competed in Sunday’s Cycle Haue Tryon Difficile Ultra Cross bicycle race, organized by Carolina Cyclocross Omnium. The organization also held its GetOut! Greenville (SC) CX-Cup race on Saturday. Both events had been set for early October, but were postponed because of constant rain and dangerous riding conditions at the time. Sunday’s race began at Harmon Field, Tryon, and ended in Saluda, after traversing a variety of roads and surfaces in Polk, Henderson and northern Greenville counties. These lead riders have just emerged from the narrow tunnel on Pearson’s Falls Road, a few miles from Saluda, and are heading toward Hwy. 176, Saluda. (Submitted by Mark Schmerling)
