Hitting the slopes with Polk’s ski and snowboard team

For eight weeks, every Wednesday during January and February, the Polk County Ski & Snowboard Team traveled up to Maggie Valley’s Cataloochee Ski Resort to compete in the official NASTAR races. Twenty teams participated with approximately 120 racers competing. This year Carrie Baris brought home the Coach of the Year Award. Bailey Livesay placed third overall in the snowboard races and qualified for nationals in Colorado in March. Hunter Hilbig, team captain and snowboard racer, was recognized as Most Valuable and Tyler Harris took home the Most Improved Skier award. Also racing for Polk on snowboard were Isaias Akers, Tyler Campbell, Jackson Geddings, Alivia Livesay, Conner McCarthy, and Alex Miller. Other skiers included Rhian Alley, Annette Echevarria, Hayden Gary, Evan McCarthy and Jared Wolfe.
