Race to the Head of the Class

Published 10:00 pm Thursday, December 11, 2014

Saturday, Dec. 13 is the second annual Race to the Head of the Class put on by Holy Cross Episcopal Church and the Tryon Running Club. The race starts at 9 a.m. and includes a 10K, 5K and a 1K fun walk. All proceeds go the Holy Cross Scholarship Fund, which benefits all area students, not just those who attend Holy Cross Church. Each year the fund distributes some $25,000 in scholarships to around 20 students.

The race begins in front of Holy Cross Church on Melrose Ave. It winds through the historic neighborhoods before coming out on Main St. at School St. and running up through downtown with a finish at the Tryon Depot. All 10K runners will complete the same course twice. The 1K walk also starts in front of the church, winds through Lyncourt Dr. and then down the hill to the depot.

You can register online through Friday morning at www.holycrosstryon.org (click on “Parish Life” then Race To The Head Of The Class) or in person Friday afternoon from 3-7 p.m. at Holy Cross Church on 150 Melrose Ave., or also in person Saturday morning before the race.

If you see the runners when you are out and about Saturday morning please cheer them on as they race to raise scholarship funds for our local area youth.
