SCLT works to open old logging roads as trails

Mountain bikers might soon have new trails to explore, and new vistas to enjoy, as Saluda Community Land Trust (SCLT) board members have plans to clear and link old logging roads on Round Mountain, about 5 miles out of town.
On Round Mountain, the trust owns 55 acres, with some old logging roads. Adjoining that tract is a parcel of similar size, on which, SCLT officials are working to obtain a trail easement, to link several old logging roads for cyclists.
At their Feb. 20 meeting board, SCLT members also discussed the possible acquisition of land or a conservation easement that could link several other easements near Old Mountain Page Road.
In other business, board members noted that SCLT’s sixth annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at Parish Hall at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Saluda. The guest speaker will be storyteller and naturalist Doug Elliot. Starting time is 6:30 p.m. Guests will learn the status of SCLT’s current projects and of the group’s new plans.
