Tryon United Methodist Church will host two concurrent events Saturday night, Feb. 26. One of them, a baked chicken dinner with all the fixings, requires advance reservations. Meals will be served from 5 – 6:30 p.m.

The accompanying silent auction is open to everyone who drops by between 5 and 7 p.m., when the auction concludes. Previews will also be available earlier in the day, starting at 10 a.m.

According to organizers Sharon Owens and Carole McEntire, the goods and services that have been donated offer something for everyone. Goods range from antiques, art and collectors’ items to tools and hunting/fishing equipment. A hand-quilted wall hanging and a mink stole share space with a child’s pedal fire truck and seasonal wreaths. A giant flying kitten gazes down on an array of paintings and carved wood pieces.

“We’ve been especially pleased that our members have donated their services as well as their possessions for this fundraising event,” said McEntire. “Someone who doesn’t need a painting or an autographed baseball might be eager for a few hours of yard work or handyman services.”
