TRYON—This past weekend, Tryon Arts & Crafts School hosted a two-day jewelry sale put on by the TACS Jewelry Studio Committee to benefit the remodeling of the Jewelry Studio and support improvements to facilities for courses in silversmithing, enameling, metal clay and lapidary. They also held a reception Friday night, May 31, to celebrate the opening of its most recent exhibitions. 

The jewelry sale showcased local metalsmiths Jimmi Buell, Melinda Holland, Jill Kemp, Patti Miles-Cooner, Shannon Thornberg, Ben Waddell, Beth Waddell and Laura White. 

One of TACS’s long-time students, Melinda Holland, shared her 15-year journey with TAC’s metalsmithing programs. 

“TACS is a unique place to learn,” said Holland. “Their classes are not only affordable but also foster a sense of community. I particularly enjoy the open studio, a weekly opportunity for qualified individuals to work on their projects together. It’s a truly inspiring environment.”

The Friday night reception showcased a double bill of exhibition, with “Illustration, Glancing Back,” a solo exhibition featuring original works by local illustrator Kevin Sprouls, and the unveiling of Janet Orselli’s site-specific art installation, “Precious Things.” Both exhibits will be open to the general public from June 1 through July 19.
