Dark Corner Classic Car Show sees record turnout

Terry Paden of Tryon wins “Best in Show” with 1939 Lincoln Pick-Up

 

LANDRUM—The Dark Corner Classic Car Show in downtown Landrum showcased 253 registered cars, trucks, and motorcycles, making it the most successful show in its six-year history. Vehicle enthusiasts enjoyed ideal weather, lively music, and an impressive display of horsepower.

During the event, the Dark Corner Classic Car Show committee announced a donation of $10,000 to Landrum’s Brookwood Park. This contribution, made possible by the support of our registrants and event sponsors, will go towards the purchase of new playground equipment, enhancing the park’s facilities for the local community.

The event was originally planned for May 4 but had to be postponed due to rain that weekend.

“The weather turned out nice today,” said sponsor and organizer Tiffany Freel. “I know a lot of people were sad we didn’t get to do it earlier. I don’t think we could have asked for better weather or turnout.”

Over 100 awards were presented at the event. The Top 100 vehicles and Sponsors’ Choice entries were recognized, along with this year’s “Best in Show” winner, Terry Paden of Tryon, and his stunning 1939 Lincoln Pick-Up. These unique awards, whiskey bottles branded with the Dark Corner Classic logo, were a fitting tribute to the exceptional vehicles on display. 

Last year’s winner of “Best of Show,” Mark Henson, said that the number of vehicles and the crowd at this year’s show was impressive. “This is the biggest turnout I’ve seen here,” he said.

The event’s success was made possible by the support of many sponsors, including the City of Landrum, Hare and Hound Pub, Tiffany Freel-State Farm, Flatwood Customs Hot Rod Shop, Petty Funeral Home, Landrum Hardware, Keystone Storage, Geno’s Crane Service, Leroy Maybry Used Cars, Stax Drake House, Orange Bear Motors, Prince Gas Company, MarketSold Realty, Jimmie Ross Garage, Stott’s Ford, and Gateway Realty Carolinas. 

The Dark Corner Classic Car Show committee thanked the Landrum Police Department and Landrum Fire & Rescue for ensuring the safety of all participants throughout the day and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
