TRYON—In a recent article, Southern Living magazine named Caro-Mi Dining Room “One of the 15 Best Roadside Restaurants in the South.”

“You’ll be able to renew your spirit and your stomach at this one-of-a-kind dining destination,” says Southern Living magazine of the Tryon landmark owned by the Stafford family. The article also features restaurants from larger cities, such as NFA Burger in Atlanta, the Loveless Cafe in Nashville, and two more in North Carolina, Caffe REL in Franklin and the Skylight Inn in Ayden.

“Our chef, David Morrow, brought it to my attention that Southern Living had emailed and asked for permission to use one of our website’s photos. We’re super excited about the article,” co-owner Dane Stafford. “But I didn’t expect the article to come out so fast. In fact, we’ve already had several customers come in because of the article.

“Southern Living first did a three-page piece on us in 1996, and since then, it has mentioned us once or twice over the years. This was a nice surprise. We like to say we’re just continuing the traditions of the Mahaffey family by keeping things the same and not changing them. And we’ve got a great staff that understands that.”

Caro-Mi is located “roadside” at 3231 US Hwy 176. To make a reservation, call 828-859-5200. The article can be found at www.southernliving.com/roadside-restaurants-8603139.
