First Train Tales presentation of 2024 set for March 15 at Saluda Historic Depot

SALUDA—The Train Tales presentation set for March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Saluda Historic Depot marks the kick-off of it’s 2024 season. The event will feature guest speaker John Pezzano, who will speak on “Railroad Depot Agents in the 19th Century.”

John Pezzano was born in New York City and graduated with a degree in engineering. He later got a Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering while serving in the Air Force and spent 12 years in the USAF doing research in New Mexico. He then worked for Hewlett-Packard as a Field Consultant in El Paso. He retired in 2002 as a Computer & Network Consultant for HP in Atlanta and moved to Hendersonville. 

While in Atlanta and for a time in Hendersonville, he volunteered at the Southeastern Railroad Museum, where he was a docent, helped with engine and car restoration and was a conductor on train rides. He also volunteered at the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad.

From 2014 until 2023, John was in the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club. He was a volunteer firefighter in New Mexico, and since living in Hendersonville, he has been a sheriff’s department volunteer, Red Cross Disaster Team Member, Mineral Museum docent and more. John is currently a docent and volunteer at the Saluda Historic Depot. 

Saluda Historic Depot is located at 32 W. Main St. The depot will officially open to the public for tours on March 28. Opening hours through December are Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
