MILL SPRING—Next month, the Mill Spring Agriculture Center is set to reopen its 500-seat auditorium with a concert featuring the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra.
The concert, set for March 29, marks the first of many events and concerts to come at the historic 41,000 sq. ft. former schoolhouse located at 156 Old School Rd., near the intersection of NC Hwy. 108 and NC Hwy. 9.
“The MSAC has always had a community-centered role,” says building owner, Anwar Timol. “And the concert series is one of the many things we are looking to do to continue that tradition. We really couldn’t ask for a better musical act to kick it all off, I’ve been a fan of Jonathan’s for a while now.”
Asheville-based Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is known for its unique blend of jazz, classical and progressive rock, accompanied by Latin rhythms and soulful outbursts of funk. The band has performed across North America and Europe, as well as toured Africa and Southeast and Central Asia as a Cultural Ambassador for the US Department of State.
The band’s latest album, “PILLAR,” features Bela Fleck and reached #5 on the iTunes Jazz Chart, and Scales has received recognition for his work, including being selected as a TEDx speaker and winning the Artist Business of the Year award from Minority Enterprise Development Committee in North Carolina. Jonathan Scales Fourchestra has also performed three times as an exceptional guest performer at Victor Wooten’s prestigious music camps.
The Fourchestra consists of electric bassist E’Lon JD, drummer Maison Guidry, and steel pan player Jonathan Scales. Despite having a changing lineup of top-notch musicians in the past, the band is now a consistent trio, with Jonathan writing for the group, not just the steel pans.
Doors for the concert will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jonathan-scales-fourchestra-to-play-mill-spring-agriculture-center-tickets.
