GREEN CREEK—The Friends of Ag Breakfast, a free event that has been a tradition for the past twelve years, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 a.m. at the Green Creek Community Center at 25 Shield Drive, Tryon.

Local farmers, growers and other food producers will provide fresh ingredients for a complimentary country breakfast, sponsored this month by AgSouth Farm Credit. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about how the Polk County Agriculture Economic Development office supports and maintains agriculture enterprises in Polk County.

The Agricultural Economic Development office aims to encourage, support and maintain growing agricultural enterprises in the county. Its objectives include marketing Polk County’s agricultural products and services, identifying trends and support services, and encouraging value-added enterprises. The office also supports training and scaling up agricultural businesses, as well as new farmer enterprises through connection and mentoring opportunities.

Additionally, the office maintains an appropriate agricultural land base to support a viable agricultural economy in Polk County, specifically through Farmland Preservation and other conservation programs.

The Friends of Agriculture Breakfast is held on the third Wednesday of every month from November through May, and the second Wednesday in December. It is a great opportunity to meet neighbors and connect with community support agencies that help maintain our rural agricultural county. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own coffee mug and plate.
