Landrum Boys participate in Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic

LANDRUM – Heading into the holiday break, the Landrum Boys participated in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The tournament featured teams from across Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee. 

Landrum secured a 77-67 victory over Lanier Christian Academy (5-7) out of Flowery Branch, Georgia in their opening game. Senior Franklin Davis led the team with 21 points, while Senior Mario Gonzalez and Sophomore AJ Lindsey contributed 15 points each. 

Landrum then fell to George Wythe High School (5-0)  from Wytheville, Virginia, in a tough overtime matchup 68-75. Despite the loss, Davis continued his impressive form with a game-high 23 points, while Gonzalez added 19 points and Junior Bennett Edwards contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.

In their final game of the tournament, Landrum bounced back with an impressive 91-87 win over Floyd Central (6-4) out of Eastern, Kentucky. Davis led the team once again with 28 points, while Gonzalez contributed 22 points and Edwards added 20 points. 

With a record of 9-4, the Cardinals are set to host Spartanburg Christian Academy (0-9) in the 24th Annual Battle at the Border on Thursday, December 28, at 8:30 p.m. 

The Landrum Varsity Girls (9-1), who are also coming off a pair of impressive wins versus Polk County and an exciting win on the road against 5A Spartanburg, will participate in the Girl’s Battle at the Border tournament. Their first tournament game will take place at home on Thursday, December 28, at 5 p.m.
