Friday night, the Landrum Cardinals (4-3, 1-2) fell victim to a monster second half from the Ninety-Six Wildcats (6-1, 2-0) losing 42-14 on the road.

A first-quarter Cardinals interception led to a short touchdown pass from the Wildcats to give them an early 7-0 lead. Landrum took the ensuing kickoff and went on a long drive ending with a Colton Link two-yard touchdown. A Joey Martinez extra point evened the score at seven.

The Cardinal defense forced a punt on the Wildcat’s next possession, pushing them back to their own 20-yard line. But as Colton Link proved many times, no matter the yardage in front of him, the endzone is always a hand-off away. Link would give the Cardinals the lead with an 80-yard run that resulted in a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Landrum forced a four-and-out and an interception to shut out the Wildcats in the second quarter, solidifying the 14-7 halftime lead. But the second half would not be as kind to the Cards as Ninety-Six would score three third-quarter touchdowns and two in the fourth, giving the Wildcats the 42-14 region win.

On Friday, October 13, Landrum will host defending Region 1 2A champs, the Abbeville Panthers (6-1, 3-0) at Cardinal Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The temperature at game time is expected to be in the high 60s, with an 80% chance of rain.
