The Landrum Cardinals improved to 3-1 on the season with a 40-20 win over the Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors (1-3) on Friday night at Upward Sports Field in Spartanburg.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start in the first quarter with a big run from sophomore back AJ Lindsey, although they missed the extra point, resulting in a 6-0 lead. The Cards got the ball back and went up 12-0 after a 50-yard touchdown from quarterback Tye Foster to junior wideout AJ Medvar. They failed to convert a 2-point conversion attempt.

In the second quarter, the Warriors managed to score first, bringing them within six points. However, senior Colton Link broke another big scoring run, and kicker Joey Martinez added an extra point to bring the score to 19-6 at halftime for the Cardinals.

The third quarter saw an extended kickoff return from Jayden Rose on a squib kick from the Warriors that set up a long run from starting quarterback Titus Poore, giving the Cardinals a 26-6 lead. A 33-yard touchdown run from Colton Link and a 40-yard pick-six from AJ Lindsey gave Landrum a commanding 40-6 lead.

The Warriors managed to score a pair of touchdowns against the Cardinal’s backups in the fourth quarter for a final score of 40-20.

The Landrum Cardinals will be looking to continue their winning ways next Friday, September 22, when they host the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers (0-5) at Cardinal Stadium. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-70s expected.

Overall, the Cardinals played a solid game, with their defense putting up a strong performance and their offense showing flashes of brilliance. Fans will be hoping to see more of the same when they take on the Tigers next week.
