TRYON—On Tuesday, September 12, the Harmon Field Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to discuss improvements and answer questions concerning the dog park located near the baseball fields. The meeting took place at the log cabin at Harmon Field.

Roughly a dozen citizens attended and there were no major complaints voiced.

Citizens presented several ideas to improve the dog park, including adding more shade and gravel and filling in the holes dug by the dogs. Suggestions were also made about looking into adding running water to the small dog park.

Town Manager Jim Fatland and interim Harmon Field Supervisor Greg McCool also spoke on upcoming improvements for Harmon Field, not just the dog park. Ideas and grant funding are being sought to make better use of the 800 sq. ft. room attached to the outdoor gym with the help of Tryon Arts and Crafts School. They also spoke about filling in the potholes by the second entrance and the possible future addition of pickleball courts.

“The dog park was put in 9 years ago and since then, Harmon Field has really come alive,” said Board Chairman Stephen Nelon. “It’s amazing how much of an impact adding the dog park has made. With the help of Jim Fatland and Greg McCool, the board is working to come up with ways to make Harmon Field a bigger and better park.”

The Harmon Field Board of Supervisors is made up of Chairman Stephen Nelon, Vice Chairman Warren Watson, Secretary/Treasurer Miguel Santibanez, Rick Covil and Jamie Dunn.
