SALUDA–The Mountain Page Theater is seeking talented individuals to audition for its upcoming musical production of Mary Poppins.

Located at 1303 Mountain Page Road, the theater is looking for men and women who can sing, along with people interested in set design, sound and lights. Rehearsals are flexible, with the option for participants to join online.

The Mountain Page Theater is a community project located in a nondescript building in Saluda, a few miles down Mountain Page Road. The theater is a product of the Young Acting Krew (YAK) and Mountain Page Players, two groups established in 2017 and 2018, and also serves as an after-school program, that provides children with a creative outlet to express themselves.

Corrinne Gerwe, the theater’s founder, believes that children introduced to the arts can use creative outlets to learn to express themselves in the present to avoid future troubles. Gerwe, who has a Master’s in Education and a Ph.D., established the theater partly because of her experience working as a psychologist with troubled adults.

The theater was established in 2020 after extensive renovation to the building donated for this purpose in 2018. The theater has the advantage of scenic beauty and ample space to expand.

Ashley Sandahl, who played a  lead role in The Sound of Music at Mountain Page, spoke highly of her experience with the group.

“I’d never done any acting, though I had done some singing,” says Sandahl. “And I told Corinne I’d always wanted to get involved with community theater but felt it would be too time-consuming. She told me you could do rehearsals via Zoom, so I gave it a try. Now you can’t keep me out of here, and I wish I’d done community theater sooner.”
