A Tryon woman was recently recognized with a national award from the Girl Scouts.

In April, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) hosted its Annual Meeting to celebrate the past year’s accomplishments and recognize volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their service to the organization.

Lori Nichols of Tryon received the Appreciation Award. The Appreciation Award recognizes a registered Girl Scout adult who has delivered outstanding service to at least one geographic area or program delivery audience.

Nichols has been a Girl Scout volunteer in Polk County for nine years, where she has served multiple roles including troop leader, Fall Product/Cookie Manager, Service Unit Specialist, Service Unit Outdoor Experience Specialist and Service Unit Banking Specialist. Nichols goes above and beyond to ensure girls and adults have a meaningful and valuable Girl Scout experience, which is evident in the inspiring and motivational Girl Scout environment she has created for her area.

“Our volunteers play a critical part in delivering our mission to the girls throughout our council area,” said CEO of GSCP2P, Jennifer Wilcox. “With their dedication and leadership, they are helping us teach girls lifelong skills, building their confidence to try new things and instilling in them a desire to serve others and their communities. And the same can be said of the volunteers- they also grow so much by being a part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.”
