Cardinals lose three consecutive coming off Spring Break

LANDRUM – The Landrum Cardinals Varsity Baseball team had a rough week after their return from Spring Break, suffering three losses in a row, two in extra-innings. 

The Cardinals returned from break with a home game Tuesday, April 11

against region foe Liberty Red Devils (8-9, 4-1). The Cardinals fought hard but lost in extra innings with a score of 9-11, having given up two runs in the top of the 9th to Liberty.

They returned to play Thursday, April 13, with a home rematch against the Greer Yellowjackets (11-8). Greer defeated Landrum 15-0 in their first matchup on the road, and they didn’t fair any better at home, losing in a blowout 18-0. 

The next day, Friday, April 14, they were back at it with a road game against the region rival Chesnee Eagles (7-7, 4-2). And while they went into the final inning up 2-1, they were outscored 2 to 1 in extra innings and lost 4 to 3. The Cardinals finished the week with a record of 7-11 and 1-5 in 2A Region 1.

The Cardinals were set to play next at home on April 17 versus the Brashier Middle College Charter Bengals (2-9-1). They then return to region play on the road on April 18 against the Blacksburg Wildcats (9-8, 4-1). The Cards finish the week on Thursday and Friday with a pair of home games, first against the Broome Centurions (3-11) at 8 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. game against the Greenville Tech Charter Warriors (1-9, 0-5).
