Spring break will be just a bit happier for Polk County’s softball team.

The Wolverines rebounded from a difficult loss to East Henderson with a 4-0 shutout Wednesday of Rosman, blanking the Tigers at home in their final game before the break.

Polk County (7-8) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, then gave itself some breathing room with a three-run fourth-inning rally.

“It is good to go into the break with a win, especially after (Tuesday’s loss to East),” said Polk head coach Phillip Miller. “We needed to rebound and go into break with something positive.”

Sarah Vitale drove in Polk’s first run with a single that scored Mia Bradley, who singled to open the inning. The Wolverines then loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on walks to Amberlyn Scruggs and Junie Mitchell and Laney Littlefield’s single.

Miya Jackson followed with a line drive to right that brought home Scruggs and Mitchell and later scored on a Bradley sacrifice fly.

Vitale made that lead stand, striking out six and walking two. She also finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

Littlefield went 2-for-2, with Jackson 1-for-2 with two RBI. Bradley had Polk’s other hit.

Polk County is next in action on April 18, traveling to R-S Central.
