LANDRUM–The Landrum boys and girls varsity teams continued their quest over the last few days to secure high seeds in the AA Region 1 conference tournaments. The boys team secured at least a tie for first place and the girl’s team finalized second with one game remaining for each in the regular season.

Tuesday night, the Landrum boys (22-3, 9-0) continued their undefeated conference streak with a 71-58 victory on the road over the Blacksburg Wildcats (10-12,4-5). Junior Franklin Davis took another step toward AA Region 1 player of the year honors with a 20-point, 6-rebound, 6-assist, and 5-steal performance. He was followed by sophomore Bennett Edwards, who had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists and Senior Marco Gonzalez with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Friday evening at home, the Cardinals pushed their win streak to 10 games, thanks to an 81-54 blowout of the Greenville Tech Charter Warriors (8-9, 4-5). The victory sets up a showdown for an undisputed regular season conference title at home in “the Cage,” against the Greer Middle College Blazers (14-10, 8-1) in their final regular season appearance. Despite another undefeated week, the Cardinals dropped a spot in the 2A state rankings to #7 overall. No box score was available at press time.
