The primary goal of Caregivers of Mother Earth, a Hendersonville-based nonprofit founded by Travis in 2021, is to get children outside and into nature. Travis created the nonprofit after realizing just how little time children spend outdoors in unstructured playtime. The nonprofit hosts farm camps and gives talks, all encouraging children to appreciate nature.

Elle is also the author of a series of children’s books themed to the seasons of the year, and illustrated by artist Jenny L. Camp. Their latest book, Winter Tales, takes young readers on a winter’s journey and is recommended for children in Pre-K through 3rd grade.

Other books in the series include Summer Fun, Fall into Autumn, and Spring Magic

Travis and her organization have partnered with the Saluda Library, local 4-H Clubs, and several camps “to help children see how everything is connected.” In addition to connecting children with nature, the organization teaches that living sustainably for the planet and building parent/child relationships are ways to become a ‘Caregiver of Mother Earth.’

The public is invited to this free event. FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Road, Tryon, NC.
