December brings cool weather holidays, gifts and the opportunity to slow down and savor a delightful book.  Be sure to stop by the Saluda Public Library on December 6 at 10:30 a.m. to participate in a free preschool story time event about winter animals.

Local public libraries have joined with the Partnership for Children of the Foothills to educate on the importance of reading aloud just 15 minutes a day and encourage enrollment in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides children ages birth to five a free book delivered to their home each month. “We encourage families to sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library when they come for books,” said Jen Pace Dickenson, Youth Services Librarian at the Polk County Public Library, “It’s great to partner with the partnership and have these fun resources to instill a deep love of reading in our kids.”

Partnership Outreach Coordinator, Desiree Magnant will share a couple of winter animal-themed books along with the normal singing and hands-on learning offered at story time. Participants will also be able to complete a fun craft and take home a free activity bag. Parents should be sure to sign up any children who do not currently receive the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library books and are less than five years old, and forms will be available at the event.
