The Cardinals (2-3) fought hard, but turnovers and missed tackles turned a clear September night gray as Landrum fell, 21-53, at Blue Ridge (3-3).

The road trip down Highway 14 got off to a rough start as Blue Ridge sophomore back Bryson Wyatt put the Fighting Tigers up 7-0. Coach Farmer’s offense would respond by taking the ball twice inside the redzone, but a turnover on downs followed by a fumble on the two-yard line would end their first-quarter momentum.

From there, the crowd would get a front-row seat to the Tucker Massey show as the Blue Ridge senior QB would score rushing touchdowns on consecutive drives to build the lead to 19-0. The Cardinals blocked an extra point and added a Colton Link 22-yard touchdown run followed by an Eli Graham extra point that cut into the lead with 3:08 to go in the first half, only for Blue Ridge to respond with a two-minute long drive of 65-yards that was capped off by an explosive 45-yard Bryson Wyatt scoring run.

Landrum received the ball to begin the second half and had a 65-yard touchdown drive of their own to make the score 14-25. Tucker Massey then scored his third touchdown to put the Fighting Tigers up 32-14. A fumble in the endzone would push the scoreboard to 38-14.

A 15-yard AJ Lindsey run ended Landrum’s scoring for the night. Massey would connect with a touchdown pass to Wyatt, with Wyatt adding two more touchdowns, both rushing and receiving, for a final score of 53-21.

Landrum will jump into AA Region 1 play with a home matchup against the Chesnee Eagles (0-5), who are coming off a 49-24 loss to Woodruff. The Region opener is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium with a game-time weather forecast of 57 degrees, with a 70% chance of rain.
