A humid home opener didn’t go the way the Cardinals (1-2) had hoped as they fell to former Region foe St. Joseph’s (3-0) 13-54.

Friday night’s rematch of a nailbiter that decided the 2A Region 2 Conference last year once again did not go Landrum’s way. Turnovers, miscues, and missed tackles allowed St. Joseph’s to build a 41-0 lead with 4:22 to go in the 2nd Quarter before Landrum finally got on the board with a late first-half score from Colton Link from 15 yards out.

St. Joseph showed a diverse offense behind the line and a big-play defense to secure a 41-6 halftime lead.

They would add two more scores in the second half to make the score 54-6. The Cardinals Colton Link added his 5th touchdown of the young season on a 26-yard run for the game’s final score early in the fourth quarter.

Landrum’s next game is Friday, September 9, when they take on Polk County (1-2) in the recently renewed Thermal Belt Rivalry. Both schools will be looking to rebound off tough losses, and the game will feature two of the top running backs in the area in Colton Link and Angus Weaver of Polk County. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Tennant Stadium. The weather forecast shows a 60% chance of rain so fans should come prepared.
