The Polk Baptist Association (PBA) Care Kitchen is celebrating its tenth year of operation with indoor dining on Fridays, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Ten years ago this month, the PBA Care Kitchen was just a dream. The idea was first discussed by a committee from local churches, which felt there was a need for providing a good meal to those in the area. Following several weeks of planning, the first no-cost Friday lunch was served on May 4, 2012.

The meal is especially nice for those who live alone or have no other family in the home at lunchtime. Often when local workers are tired of packing a lunch or eating fast food, this is a welcome change for them. All are invited to the lower level of the Polk Baptist Association Office, 208 Blanton Street, Columbus every Friday 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The meal is free but donations are greatly appreciated should you desire to contribute toward the expenses. Churches and groups are encouraged to collect and deliver non-perishables for use in our Care Kitchen.

During the spring and summer, the PBA Care Kitchen asks that you plant extra tomatoes and vegetables in your garden and to think of donating a portion of the yield to this worthwhile project. For more information, call the Polk Baptist office at 894-3787.
