Polk County Public Libraries are celebrating Earth Day this spring by participating in the 13th Annual Neighborhood Forest free tree program, whose aim is to provide free trees to kids every Earth Day. 

 

To sign your child up for a free tree, fill out the online registration form at polklibrary.org/neighborhood-forest by February 28, 2022. Each child will receive a free tree (6-12 inches in size) during Earth Week (April 22-30), which can be picked up at the library. You will be contacted prior to Earth Week about exactly when and where to pick up the tree. Planting instructions and species information will be emailed a few days prior to the trees arriving. 

 

Since 2010, Neighborhood Forest has reached over 100,000 families and planted over 50,000 (mostly urban and residential) trees through the hands of children and parents across North America. Polk County Public Libraries endorse this project and are excited to be participating in this wonderful program that teaches kids stewardship through the magic and wonder of planting and watching trees grow. Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, with books, DVDs, music, audiobooks, board games, cake pans, and more available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access. PCPL also offers digital materials for checkout from the North Carolina Digital Library, NC Kids Digital Library, and Hoopla, as well as regularly scheduled virtual and in-person programs for all ages.
