Sarah Kathryn O’Steen McArthur

Bakersfield, CA – Sarah Kathryn O’Steen McArthur, 33, formerly of Tryon, NC, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Mercy Hospital from complications during childbirth. 

 

Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the wife of Marshall McArthur, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, and the daughter of Kathryn Jolly of Madison, NC, and Michael O’Steen, Sr. and Allison O’Steen of Tryon, NC.

She was the mother of her newborn, Margaret Charles McArthur and daughter in law of John and Dianne McArthur of Spartanburg, SC. 

 

A 2004 graduate of Polk County High School, where she was Senior Class President, she completed her undergraduate degree at UNC-Wilmington and her Master of Arts degree in College Student Development at Appalachian State University, subsequently holding positions at ASU, UNC Wilmington and Central Washington State University. She was most recently employed at California State University-Bakersfield, where she served as an academic adviser in the School of Social Sciences and Education and liaison to the Department of Psychology. 

 

From an early age Sarah was well known in the local equestrian community and was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, where she and her beloved husband, Marshall, returned to be married in 2017. She will be remembered for her marvelous sense of humor and ready smile. 

 

Additionally, Sarah is survived by her brother, Michael O’Steen, Jr. (Kaitlin) and niece Genevieve O’Steen of Hendersonville, NC; two sisters, Duncan Pittman of Tryon, NC, and Diana Patterson (Brad) and niece Aubrey Patterson of Asheville, NC and brother in law David McArthur (Jes) and nephew Maxton and niece Chloe of Spartanburg, SC and brother in law Mac McArthur (Erin) and nieces Eleanor and Violet of Greenville, SC.
