Frequent shoppers and treasure hunters alike lined the sidewalk in Columbus in anticipation of the reopening of Second Chance Thrift Store on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Once the doors opened, they dashed off to find steals and deals for the season.

With the reopening came new, more consistent store hours. The new hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Donations are accepted during business hours at the shop’s Blanton Street door.

Donors are asked to not leave donations unattended. After-hours donations may be left at Steps to HOPE, 60 Ward St., Columbus, where an attendant is on duty 24/7.

Twice per year, the Second Chance Thrift Store closes for changeover to move from one season to another.

Proceeds from the sale of donated merchandise to the store help support Steps to HOPE, the domestic violence and sexual assault center serving and educating western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina. The success of Steps to HOPE depends heavily on community donations, local shoppers and volunteers, representatives said.
