Getting an edge on the 2018-2019 school year is the goal of Polk County Middle School’s annual Jump Start program.

By helping students transition into their next grade level, the Jump Start program helps students reduce anxieties and increase excitement surrounding the start of a new school year, representatives said.

The PCMS Jump Start program will meet from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13-17, with the option of after-school care until 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

During the week, students meet the team of teachers they will have for the year, become familiar with the grade level curriculum and learn classroom/school procedures and how to improve study/organizational skills. Additional activities will be led by the school resource officer and PCMS school counselors.

The Jump Start program is free. To register, people may contact the school at 828-894-2215 or email Nikki Honeycutt at nhoneycutt@polkschools.org.
