Tryon child racks up two medals at Special Olympics Summer Games

Tryon Elementary School student Liam Jergenson brought home a pair of medals from the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games.

The 8-year-old earned a gold medal in the shot put and a bronze medal in the 25-meter dash at the games, held June 1-3 at St. Augustine University.

The Summer Games is the largest state-level event for Special Olympics North Carolina, featuring competition in athletics, bowling, cheerleading, cycling, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball, swimming and volleyball. The 2018 event celebrated the 50th anniversary of the competition in North Carolina.
